The Seria Oil Field has been the heart of Brunei Darussalam’s energy story since 1929. As one of Southeast Asia’s oldest producing fields, it has delivered over a billion barrels of oil and continues to prove that major fields can keep delivering value.
In recent years, Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn. Bhd. (BSP) has breathed new life into this mature asset, not only extending its lifespan, but redefining what’s possible in field rejuvenation. New compression systems are keeping production more stable and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. BSP is also exploring deeper zones and expanding work toward the field’s outer edges.
On 14 November 2025, we witnessed the commissioning of the JO-5 workover hoist, bringing idle wells back into production and unlocking new potential.
The Petroleum Authority applauds BSP for its commitment and will continue to support its ambition to revitalise the Seria field. In a time of global energy transition, the Seria field stands as a reminder that with innovation and strategic foresight, legacy assets can keep delivering value while supporting both economic resilience and a responsible energy transition.
